Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist/ Radiographer to join our multidisciplinary team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Bedford site).
The Bedford site has an installed equipment base including a SPECT-CT system and a DXA bone densitometry system. A wide range of examinations are undertaken including Lung Ventilation & Perfusion Imaging, Lacrimal Drainage, and Bile Salt Absorption studies.
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, performing a wide range of clinical Nuclear Medicine and radiographic procedures whilst providing a high level of patient care.
The role will require participation in rotation through other modalities as and when required by the service.
The Trust has implemented a shift system and 7-day working. Willingness to work within a flexible work pattern will be required.

Main duties of the job
To perform a wide range of Nuclear Medicine and radiographic procedures across a variety of complex clinical presentations and pathologies to a required standard.
To ensure that all examinations are justified as per the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations and fulfil the role of operator.
To minimise radiation dose levels as low as reasonably practical.
To accurately dispense and calibrate radiopharmaceuticals.
To perform intravenous cannulation and the administration of radiopharmaceuticals with high precision, accuracy and aseptic technique, to avoid extravasations and high local radiation dose.
To administer radioactive tracers orally and topically.
To be able to manage safely radioactive contamination of patient or environment.
To fulfil the responsibility to minimise radiation doses to patients, carers and staff.
To perform regular QA checks on equipment, documenting results and recognising trends and proposing action needed to effect change.
To attend and participate in staff meetings, and departmental activities such as Health & Safety, audits, and clinical governance.
To monitor the implementation and observance of radiation protection local rules and systems of work and report any problems to a Radiation Protection Supervisor.
To expand and update professional skills and knowledge for Continuous Professional Development.
To attend all mandatory training, as required by the Trust.

Essential criteria
- BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent) / Nuclear Medicine Qualification.
- HCPC / RCT/ UK Professional Registration.
Desirable criteria
- Nuclear Medicine / DEXA experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a range of post qualification clinical experience
- Evidence of experience to rotate between specialist areas
- Participation in quality assurance and clinical audit
Desirable criteria
- SPECT- CT experience
Knowledge & Communication Skills

- Excellent communications skills; able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients and staff
