Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 7 Radiographer to join our group of lead radiographers here at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital radiology department.

Our team is made up of dynamic radiographers that ensure delivering a high standard of patient care is priority in everything we do. We also take pride in exhibiting good communication as we work closely with other inter-professionals to make certain that patients get the best experience whilst they are at the hospital.

As a Band 7 Lead Radiographer you will be required to demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to work well under managed pressure.

Main duties of the job

To competently undertake imaging techniques, planning and prioritising own and section workload, utilising specialist skills.  Maintain and ensure a high quality of work and complete consideration for the patient.  To be a good example to and train radiographers, student radiographers and other health care workers and help them to develop into skilled considerate workers. To be responsible for a core aspect of the Imaging Department and act in an advisory role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibility
  1. The Band 7 Lead Rotational Radiographer will be expected to work and efficiently lead in all areas of plain film at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital.
  2. To show complete consideration for the patient inclusive of privacy and dignity. To assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene to include toileting and safe handling and disposal of body fluids.
  3. To advise and ensure correct physical and psychological preparation for imaging procedures.  Communicate complex sensitive information overcoming barriers to understanding.
  4. To be responsible for patients during imaging examinations, and be able to adapt care dependent upon age, condition and clinical need, demonstrating empathy and reassurance.  To use specialist skills when assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient’s condition.  Safe handling and moving of patients utilising correct procedures and equipment when required.
  5. To exercise analytical and judgemental skills when communicating condition related information to patients, relatives, clinicians and other health care professions.

Training

  1. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice.
  2. To supervise and participate in the practical training of students and radiographers.  Act as student mentor. To encourage the personal development of staff in specialist area.
  3. To participate in the training and education of imaging assistants and other health care professionals. 
  4. To organise and carry out tutorials and training in specialist area.

Person specification

Education & Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Diagnostic Radiography
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • IV Cannulation Certificate
  • Postgraduate training to P.G.Dip level

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Deal sensitively with patients from all cultural backgrounds
Desirable criteria
  • Management skills
  • Extensive leadership skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Some experience in Interventional Radiology
  • Extensive NHS senior radiographer experience in all areas of imaging
  • Experience in working with CR/DR and 'Picture archive and communication system', (PACS)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of cardiac imaging
  • Previous team lead experience
