An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as the General Manager for Cancer Services at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

This post is specific to L&D hospital and the successful applicant will work closely with the General Manager for Cancer on the Bedford Hospital site and, in partnership with nursing and clinical leads, you  will be responsible for leading the organisation wide delivery of cancer services for the Trust. With a track record of expert knowledge and delivery against cancer access standards and senior operational experience within an acute hospital, you will have empowerment and autonomy to drive forward improvement in a supportive and collaborative team environment. 

You will work with colleagues from the Mount Vernon Cancer network, senior delivery leads in the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System and the Cancer Alliance as well as MDT colleagues across the organisation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must for this post, which is all about coaching, team working and shared vision for delivery.

Main duties of the job

In partnership with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Directors, the General Manager has direct operational accountability for clinical oncology services and the chemotherapy unit based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital as well as the cancer services MDT team who are responsible for tracking and monitoring cancer pathways and submission of performance data to the national team.

Senior operational lead for the delivery of cancer care for patients referred to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

Oversight responsibility for cancer access targets, transformation projects and cross-cutting initiatives. 

Accountable for the operational delivery of the clinical services falling within the  cancer group, and developing a service strategy in conjunction with clinical leads.

Accountable for delivery of the service line financial target and ensuring continual improvement, ensuring that financial controls are established and maintained.

Lead the development of quality objectives and business targets for the clinical service lines within the scope of the group.
