Job overview

Bedfordshire Hospitals are excited to share an opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-directed Specialist Safeguarding Nurse  to join the acute specialist team within the Trust. 

This role enables the successful candidate to develop their clinical expertise relating to safeguarding children and young people. You will gain experience within the role by covering all of our 2 sites. 

As part of the day to day role we will triage referrals for vulnerable adults and children under 18, liaise and information share with external agencies, e.g. health visitors, school nurses, social workers, integrated gang unit workers, social workers and Domestic Abuse services, ensuring their safety and wellbeing . You will deliver safeguarding training to staff as well as provide safeguarding supervision You will advocate for adults and children in a variety of safeguarding meetings and work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

We are fortunate to work with in a large integrated safeguarding team. The team consists of Named Nurses for Children and Adults, a Consultant Nurse, Named Midwifes, Named Doctor, Safeguarding midwives, Safeguarding nurses for both children and adults, a Domestic abuse specialists, Dementia alongside learning disability staff and administrators.

 

Main duties of the job

  • As a clinical expert, to lead the operational delivery & support the strategic delivery of safeguarding practice across the Trust in accordance with national, regional and local legislation, policies and recommendations, ensuring that holistic care is provided to children and their families by a well trained and proactive workforce, ensuring that the Trust Safeguarding vision is achieved
  • To provide visible, effective leadership and expertise across the Trust, working closely with the clinical staff and external agencies to ensure children & unborns are safeguarded.
  • To support the Head of Safeguarding and Named Nurses/ Midwifes, to ensure the implementation of current safeguarding legislation and guidelines for adults, children and young people across the Trust.
  • To work in partnership with a wide range of agencies to achieve the highest standards of care.
  • To undertake research and audit in relation to safeguarding adults, children and young people in order to gain new information and to inform future practice.
