Are you looking for a new and exciting community-based role, working within a supportive and friendly team?

We have a vacancy within our team for a Specialist Paediatric Dietetic Team Lead.

We are looking for somebody who is passionate about working with children and young people (CYP) with complex health needs who are enterally fed and/or those who have feeding difficulties across Berkshire.

You will be based at a University of Reading site but will be required to work with CYP and their families across a wide range of community settings within Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham including their home, special schools and respite or short break settings, delivering high-quality dietetic, support, training and advice.

You will manage a designated case load, working within a multi-disciplinary team and with multi-agency colleagues. You will provide day-to-day oversight and management of the Specialist Paediatric Dietetic Team service across West Berkshire, with support from the Community Children’s Nurse Manager and Head of Service.

For this role you will need to have good clinical and organisational skills and the ability to work independently and autonomously, whilst also remaining part of the wider team. Effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team is vital with a good knowledge of safeguarding. 

 Your working pattern will be 30 hours per week between Monday – Friday. Flexible hours will be considered.

·       Home enteral feeding contracting and other services provided under a service level agreement.

·       Practice development of the team, leading on standard operating procedures and clinical development

·       Audit, patient feedback and service improvement.

·       To use specialist skills, knowledge and experience to provide clinical dietetic advice to CYP with complex health needs and disabilities

·       To clinically assess CYP’s dietetic needs by the calculation of nutritional requirements based on interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, physical and social aspects of the CYP.

·       To manage, plan, co-ordinate and deliver nutrition/dietetic training for parents, carers and professionals as required

·       To plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate / adjust specialised dietetic treatment to CYP across a range of community settings

·       Manage and organise a defined caseload.

·  To provide direct line management, including one to one supervision and annual performance reviews to specified members of the team.

·       You will have some experience of paediatrics and/or enteral feeding.

Previous Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Dietitian
  • Experience in working with Paediatric and / or enteral feeding in complex patients’ caseloads
  • Experience of enteral feeding - Previous involvement with the pre-registration practice placements for students

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Is able to demonstrate a good understanding of general dietetics and in particular Paediatric issues Knowledge and understanding of current government policies relating to health care.
  • Ability to use own initiative, work independently and autonomously and prioritise workload

  • s able to use analytical and problem solving skills to apply to own practice.
  • Has knowledge of national strategies and clinical evidence related to obesity
  • Ability to demonstrate high level communication skills dealing with complex situations that arise within the community setting and outside agencies
  • Able to communicate effectively with CYP, including non-verbal communication
  • Approachable, confident, empathetic, trustworthy, passionate about delivery of high-quality care
