Job overview

This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated dietitian with an interest in acute adult dietetics, excellent communication skills and a passion for patient centered care.   

As the successful candidate, you will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital providing a specialist dietetic input into complex adult inpatients working closely with your MDT colleagues including consultants, surgeons and specialist nurses. 

This role will provide you with excellent and supported professional and personal development. As part of the team you will have opportunities to be involved with the training of dietetic students, other dietitians and healthcare professions. There are also opportunities to get involved with audit, research and service development 

 

You would be joining a team of over 30 committed and welcoming dietitians, who work in a range of specialist areas at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Reading is the largest town in the UK with great shopping, nightlife, restaurants and London is less than half an hour by train. 

We are a forward thinking department that has a strong focus on a patient centered service. We encourage service development and have an established quality improvement programme driving the service forward.  

full time (37.5 hours) hours are available for this role. We would consider a band 5 – 6 progression for this role for applicants who have had a small amount of experience in acute dietetics and looking to progress.  

 

Main duties of the job

  • Being part of the MDT in assessing nutritional status 

  • Advising and supporting patients in the inpatient settings 

  • Supporting the training of dietetic students  

  • Supporting  peers with specialist knowledge 

  • Implementing Quality Improvement programme to lead service development

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / Degree in Dietetics
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Experience as a practicing dietitian in acute hospital setting
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of specialist group

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Demonstration that clinical skills are up to date
Desirable criteria
  • Have completed or interested in talking: Student supervisory training
  • Have completed or interested in talking: Behaviour change training

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in acute hospital dietetics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a multicultural environment
  • Experience in training student dietitians
  • Participation in dietetic clinical audit

  • Excellent presentation skills both written and verbal with individuals and groups
