Senior Mental Health Practitioner/SUN Facilitator – Erlegh House, University of Reading University of Reading, RG6 6BZ.Band 6 positions available, with opportunities for band 7 development.   

Permanent, full and part-time options available.  

Through co-production Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has developed a comprehensive care pathway for individuals who may have difficulties associated with a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). The SUN (Service User Network) service is a new component of the pathway and is based on a national model for SUN. 

 

We are now seeking enthusiastic professionals to appoint to key clinical roles for the SUN Service within Berkshire. You will actively support the delivery and ongoing development of this exciting new service.  The successful candidates will co-facilitate groups with other Core Professional Facilitators and Lived Experience Facilitators. We have a combination of online and face to face groups. Groups are now delivered across various sites in Berkshire and the successful candidate will be expected to travel to different community venues across the county as well as working regularly from our base in Reading. Some home working may be possible for online groups. 

Main duties of the job

SUN is exclusively a group network, which is aimed at providing ongoing support for SUN members through attending groups as and when they feel they need support. The main duties of this role are to co-facilitate regular SUN groups and to contribute to the development and promotion of the SUN service 

The SUN Team sits within IMPACTT (Personality Disorder Pathway Services) and line management is provided by the SUN Team ManagerThe SUN Team of facilitators have specific SUN facilitation training provided at commencement with the service and will attend mandatory weekly group supervision, training and implementation and reflective practice sessions.  

There may be opportunities to assist in the delivery of other aspects of the EUPD pathway, including the Managing Emotions Programme  

Additionally, there will be opportunities to develop into a band 7 role which will include further responsibilities such as supervising junior staff, delivering training, and deputising for the service manager as required. Service growth and development will also be at the forefront, and the post holder will be expected to attend networking events and work with both internal and external agencies to support this. This post will involve travel across all localities in Berkshire. Use of a car for work is preferable

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The essential criteria for you to be considered for this role include: 

  1. Diploma or degree level professional qualification such as Nurse, OT, Social Worker, Psychological Therapist or Psychotherapist and registered with relevant professional body. 

  1. Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience of working with people with mental health problems, group facilitation, and supporting people with complex emotional needs or difficulties associated with personality disorders.  

  1. Strong working knowledge of mental health services, peer support and co-production.

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of relevant post registration training and development in group facilitation or psychologically informed interventions e.g. motivational interviewing, cognitive and behavioural approaches, Structured Clinical Management, psychosocial interventions
  • Degree level Professional qualification – Nurse, OT, Social worker Clinical/counselling psychologist and current professional registration
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Post Graduate clinical or leadership qualification relevant to the role

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-qualification experience of working with adults with mental health problems.
  • Experience in community mental health services for adults/older age adults with severe or significant mental illness
  • Experience of working with EUPD in the Community
  • Experience of providing a range of evidence based interventions or therapies to people with a variety of mental health problems and serious mental illness
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk and safeguarding
  • Experience of working in secondary care and/ or inpatient services.
  • Evidence of Interdisciplinary / multi-agency working experience including primary care and community/ voluntary sector.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with complex substance misuse difficulties.
  • Experience of effective collaborative working in partnership to deliver holistic health and social care outcomes.
  • Experience of leadership and development of junior colleagues.
  • Experience in service evaluation and improvements.
