This is an exciting opportunity to join our Clinical Administration Team (CAT 11), as we currently have a temporary and permanent position available as full time Band 3 Assistant Patient Pathway Co-ordinator (APPC) at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trusts (RBFT). CAT 11 covers Respiratory, Cardiology & Stroke departments, and provides a first class, efficient, pro-active and patient focused service.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and organised individual to provide specialist admin support to the Respiratory, Cardiology & Stroke teams. You will need to be confident working within a team in a fast paced environment and have excellent IT skills, be comfortable communicating with patients and colleagues at all levels and work quickly and accurately under pressure.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be responsible and accountable for consistently and accurately carrying out your duties as well as the provision of a high quality and efficient service, providing this in a confident and courteous way to service users.

The role will provide comprehensive administrative support  to the Respiratory, Cardiology & Stroke Departments and Clinicians. You will support the CAT in the delivery of a patient focused service, and be responsible for the processing of general admin duties, answering the telephones to patients, other healthcare providers and internal staff, scheduling of appointments, processing of clinic letters and other administrative duties.

This post requires previous experience of delivering high levels of customer/patient service, working within an administrative environment, preferable experience within the NHS but not essential, using multiple computer systems and managing data (electronic and paper based).  Knowledge of the 18 week pathway would also be beneficial.  Full compliance with local procedures, deadlines and best practice will be a key part of the role.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration/Customer Care or acquired equivalent experience
  • GCSE or equivalent

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using of IT systems and patient data systems
  • Experience of working with patients and providing information regarding their appointments or treatment plan
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of handling patient complaints.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Competent in planning, organising and accomplishing a variety of concurrent assignments.
  • Understanding of patient priorities and performance targets related to appointments and waiting times.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of speciality specific patient pathways.
