Band 3 Cancer Pathways Tracker

This is a fixed-term post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join the Cancer Pathways team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

You will need to be a team player, have good organisational and communication skills and an eye for detail.

A good knowledge of Microsoft applications, experience using a hospital database, knowledge of cancer terminology and the national cancer targets would be advantageous.

The role will include tracking patients through their cancer pathway in line with the cancer waiting time targets, along with providing accurate data entry onto an external database.

You will provide administrative support to the wider Cancer Pathways Team when needed.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for tracking cancer patients in line with national cancer targets and will facilitate data collection for suspected/diagnosed cancer patients, entering the information on to appropriate database(s).

The post includes providing administration support to the Cancer Information Team and data collection for the National Cancer Audits. This post is key to providing high quality information and ensuring patient’s progress effectively on the cancer pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the cancer database is updated in a timely and accurate manner to enable the clinical teams to meet the cancer targets.
  • To establish and maintain a record of all newly diagnosed cancer patients.  Collate and compare information from a variety of sources such as pathology, surgical, chemotherapy and radiotherapy reports.
  • To support accurately and record the outcome of clinical decisions made by the Consultant, as recorded in the health records as necessary.
  • To fully utilise all hospital systems and third party reports to obtain/verify relevant patient information.
  • To input data into Infoflex  and to ensure Infoflex is accurately updated in a timely fashion.
  • To develop working knowledge of the Infloflex system to ensure accurate and timely collection of CWT data.
  • To provide assistance in the collection of Finance data linked to the MDT Meetings.
  • To complete validation reports for the collection of COSD and CWT data.
  • To support the MDT Co-ordinator to manage and track the patients through every stage of the patient pathway on a daily basis, to ensure diagnostic tests and any subsequent treatments are achieved within targets and escalate any potential delays in pathways as protocol which will result in CWT breaches as soon as these are identified.
  • Maintain close communication with the Cancer Information Team and relevant MDT co-ordinator to update them on a regular basis on work progress and alerting them to of any problems that may result in a delay in the patient’s treatment.
  • To support all CWT Processes/protocols to be implemented and actioned within the necessary timeframes in order to avoid breaches of the cancer pathway milestones.
  • To support and undertake collection of all relevant patient data onto Infloflex.
