Cancer Prehab/Rehab Clinical Nurse Specialist (Band 6/7 dependent on experience)
This is a part-time post for 15 hours per week.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is excited to announce that we have a new opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Berkshire Cancer Centre.
We are looking for a dynamic, well-motivated and compassionate nurse with experience in cancer care to support the services provided by the cancer rehabilitation and wellbeing team.
The role offers opportunities to develop your skills to become an autonomous and independent practitioner in an interesting and fast moving field of oncology.
This is an exciting time to join the team whilst we increase our nurse-led working to enhance the care for people with cancer.
The post holder will be part of the cancer prehabilitation and wellbeing team, working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team supporting patients diagnosed with cancer.
You will be able to undertake further professional development to support you in your future career progression.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) support people diagnosed with cancer by providing expert advice, psycho-social support and information on their disease, investigations, treatment and follow-up care.
The cancer prehabilitation and wellbeing team work alongside the site specific CNS team to enhance the services for these patients leading to improved cancer experience and outcomes.
The CNS team help to care for patients at all stages of their cancer journey and through a variety of treatments in a kind, compassionate manner.
The team are committed to the development and delivery of high quality holistic patient care. They play an active part in clinical practice, management of patient caseload, education, research, audit and professional activities relating to cancer care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role are:
Working as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to patients with cancer.
Providing holistic needs assessment and individualised compassionate care.
Responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of this patient group.
Working with other professional groups in secondary and primary care.
Providing specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff and students.
Works strategically to influence and drive the development of the service both locally and nationally.
Participation in/leading clinical audit in own area.
Participates in and facilitates/undertakes research in specialist field.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Pt 1/12)
- Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Advanced communication skills training
- Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care/relevant subject
- Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience in cancer or appropriate speciality
- Experience in facilitation/teaching/assessing
- Experience of successful change management
- Experience of multiprofessional team working
- Demonstrates ability to place patient and family at centre of care
