Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior staff nurse to join our 19 bedded Cardiac Care Unit in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The role involves supporting the Ward Manager and junior members of staff in the leadership and management of the Unit. They will work closely with Whitley ward, Jim Shahi Unit and the Cardiology department in supporting development in cardiac services.

Cardiac Care Unit has 18 beds and one side room. Each bed space all have the ability to cardiac monitor. We admit directly from 999 ambulance service and run a  24hr PPCI service.

We care for a wide group of cardiology patients requiring temporary pacing, intra aortic balloon pump, non invasive ventilation and care of patients requiring arterial lines. 

We recognize the importance of development and pride ourselves with running multiple in house workshops including ECG  workshops and scenario based training.  We have a dedicated practice educator who is committed to the developmental needs of the unit along  with the senior team including the ward manager, band 7 's and lead nurse. There is also the ability to undertake various courses both within the  trust and in paired partnership with universities. The  senior staff nurse will have the ability to enroll onto the Band 6 development Programme which provide various competencies in which will aid their development within the role

Main duties of the job

Clinically competent in all cardiac essential skills

Running of ward on  a day to day basis encompassing managing of patient flow, coordinating the shift ensuring patient safety is paramount

Will be responsible for supporting junior and senior members of staff

Datix management and incident reviews 

Responsible for ensuring that KPIs are on target

Will support all Bands of nursing in their professional development 

Responsible for supporting the Ward Manager with budgets

Will be responsible for own mentor group and appraisals
