We are a close-knit team well supported by the Consultant Cardiologists who are active in supporting the echo service and exploring novel ways of working to optimise service delivery.

Main duties of the job

Applicants would be expected to have full BSE transthoracic accreditation (or EACVI equivalent) and have some managerial experience to help drive delivery of the echo service on a daily basis.

Additional expectations are:

  • To be able to scan and report independently for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Supervise and deliver training for cardiac physiologists, STP and ETP trainees, and Cardiology Registrars.
  • Participate fully in our range of well-established specialist clinics:

    • Physiologist-led exercise stress echo
    • Adult Congenital echo (a thriving monthly clinic run by visiting Cardiologists from the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford)
    • Inherited disorders clinic
    • Cardio-oncology clinic
    • Cardio-obstetrics clinics
    • Transoeophageal echocardiography (Consultant led).
    • Deputise for echo lead in their absence.
    • Attendance at weekly echo MDT meetings (which are very well attended and supported).
    • Willing to support delivery of clinics at spoke sites either at Henley/Bracknell/ Newbury,1 or 2 days/week

Working for our organisation

The Cardiology department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital has an outstanding reputation and a proud record of achievement. We achieved University department status in 2020 and have successfully achieved re-accreditation this summer. This was granted by the Health Innovation Partnership who offers a programme for collaborative research and education innovation funding recognising clinical, teaching and research excellence. As a department we continue to invest in our service and staff. This includes a current project to improve the space in the department to provide a more relaxed and spacious area for the team to enjoy their breaks.  We are also investing in new equipment (ECHO machines) and ISCV reporting system to improve service delivery and ensure our staff have access to the best possible technology to enhance the quality of care delivered to our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are committed to continued professional development, training and support for all our staff. As a member of the team, the successful applicant would have access to:

  • Rotation through all aspects of the department (if desired). This is a Band 7 position predominantly within our Echo service, although we wholeheartedly welcome applications from those wishing to retain existing skills in other areas such as Cath Lab, pacemakers/ICD implants, Holter analysis.
