Job overview

Band 7 Nurse Specialist/AHP for Liver health checks (Oxford, Bucks and Milton Keynes)

This is a fixed-term post for 1 year.

An exciting opportunity has been created for a band 7 Nurse/AHP to join the Hepatology team as part of the Liver cancer health checks.

Whilst experience in this field would be an advantage, we view this as a developmental role which will include support for skills development.

This is a full-time post that will cover clinics at Royal Berkshire Hospital as well as satellite clinics across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Milton Keynes.

The post-holder is an experienced Nurse/AHP who, acting within their professional boundaries, participates in the treatment and management of liver disease.

You will demonstrate a robust, contemporary knowledge of the management of liver disease/viral hepatitis and will have an understanding and experience of conducting research.

Based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the post-holder will (having demonstrated adequate competence) work independently in satellite services across the county.

This is a developmental role with a clear strategy for training.

You will work on occasions autonomously but within Trust and NMC/HCPC policies, protocols and guidelines.

The post-holder will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making, high levels of critical thinking and holistic practice as well as a thorough knowledge of EASL, BASL and NICE clinical guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is for an experienced Nurse/AHP to deliver the Liver Health (HCC) project as part of the ODN team.

This post is to work across Oxford, Buckinghamshire, and Milton Keynes. This will involve working with the ODN Partner Organisations across the area which includes specific teams such as medical, nursing, management and data teams across all relevant hospitals and drug treatment teams in the ODN area.

The Nurse/AHP will help deliver the Liver Health project linked to the ODN work plan and Hepatitis C Elimination Programme.

The post-holder will be required to work across organisations to ensure correct patient pathways are in place - along with identifying at-risk patients and delivering a community FibroScan Service, with onward referral and monitoring in the hospital setting.

The project aims to increase early detection of liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) to help achieve the Long Term Plan ambition for 75% of all cancers to be diagnosed at an early stage (1&2) by 2028.

You will need to have a can-do approach and be able to communicate on all levels and via all medias, and must be able to drive.

Working for our organisation

Reading sits on the River Thames and is served by great road and rail links to London, Oxford, and Southampton. With excellent leisure and shopping facilities, and a thriving cultural scene, Reading is a wonderful place to live, work, and play and provides excellent facilities for families, including some of the best state and private schools in the UK.

The CQC recently rated the care provided by the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as Good.

Our values: Compassionate, Aspirational, Resourceful, Excellent, reflect the type of Trust we aspire to be and you can join our dedicated and talented staff to make this happen.
