An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to train as an Assistant Practitioner in Mammography to join our friendly Breast Screening team within the West Berkshire Breast Screening Programme.
The successful candidate will provide an excellent patient experience and high-quality service to all, utilising best practise techniques and personalised empathetic care.
As a member of the Mammography team, you will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary breast team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in both the screening and symptomatic sectors.

The successful candidate will ensure that the provision of a high-quality service is maintained and that mammographic images are produced in accordance with both NHS Breast Screening Programme
Applicants must be willing to complete the Level 4 Apprentice Mammography Associate Practitioner training is completed at the earliest opportunity. Experience working in the NHS Breast Screening Programme would be an advantage with an NVQ level 3 in health and social skills or equivalent experience being an essential requirement.
This is a development role starting at Band 3 progressing to Band 4 on completion of level 4 Apprentice Mammography Associate Practitioner.
Main duties of the job
· Perform mammograms under the direct and indirect supervision of a mammographic radiographer, meeting the standards outlined by the NHSBSP
· Provide general assistance to the clinical team during mammographic procedures, ultrasound and interventional procedures within the department.
· Provide a high level of care to clients
· Exercise care in the handling of clients and ensure confidentiality of their details at all times.
Working for our organisation
The West Berkshire Breast Screening service is part of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. We are part of the main radiology department and offer breast screening to all those registered as female with a GP in the west of the county of Berkshire. The service invites approximately 20,000 women a year for breast screening.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Carry out mammography screening and assessment sessions as arranged.
Provide a high level of care to clients
Provide general assistance to the clinical team during mammographic procedures
Support staff working within the breast screening team
Ensure that working practices comply with district and departmental policies on Health & Safety, Radiation and Data Protection

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSEs graded C/4 or above in Maths and English. Functional skills are acceptable in lieu of GCSEs
- IELTs overall score of at least 7, with a score no lower than 6.5 in any area - where relevant
- NVQ level 3
Desirable criteria
- Use of NBSS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous work in a health care setting
- Evidence of recent clinical experience within a Radiology Department, e.g. as a Radiographic Assistant
Desirable criteria
- Experience working within a radiology department or the NHSBSP
- Understanding of IRMER
Additional

- UK driving licence with access to car
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use hospital pool cars
