Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a  Specialty Doctor to join our proactive team. The post holder will be expected to embrace the culture of the unit and work enthusiastically and closely with the existing team to develop all areas of the service.

The role will consist of a mixture of outpatient clinics, minor oral surgery sessions for patients under local anaesthesia, local anaesthesia with sedation, general anaesthetic sessions under reduced supervision and clinical administration.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking outpatient clinics independently referring to a consultant when required.
  • Unsupervised day case operating for patients under general anaesthesia.
  • Local anaesthetic Minor Oral Surgery lists in outpatient department.
  • Provide senior level cover in the department including supervision and teaching of less experienced doctors.
  • Participate in the development of maxillofacial services as agreed with the clinical lead.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
  • Develop and maintain good communications with General Dental Practitioners and General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
  • Active involvement in clinical audit and clinical governance.
  • Ensure that own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust’s Performance and Annual Review System.

The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital. The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.

In general, the post holder will be expected to:

  • Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of clinical care.
  • Take on appropriate management responsibilities and lead in service developments as appropriate to interests and experience.

  • Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) or eligible for full registration at the time of appointment
  • Current licence to practice at the time of application and appointment MFDS/FDSRCS or equivalent

  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, of a standard to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues evidenced by undergraduate medical training in English, or ILETS score above 7.5 overall or alternative supporting evidence
