Job overview
ST4+ in General/neonatal Paediatrics which is full time and will participate on the on call rota.
The post-holder will cover predominantly paediatrics during working hours (ward cover, acute GP referrals seen within Paediatric A&E, daybed patient reviews), although will need to cover neonates out of hours. There will be an opportunity to cover outpatient clinics. During on-call shifts (from 5pm and weekends) the registrar will cover a mix of both neonates and paediatrics. We have separate consultant rota for general paediatrics and Neonates.
Neonatal unit is a level 2 SCBU were we manage preterm above 28 weeks gestation. There are 2 ANP’s and separate neonatal SHO/FY2/ST trainees as a part of the neonatal rota
Main duties of the job
- Day to day clinical management of children on the two acute children’s wards, Dolphin and Lion, including medical aspects of surgical patients and close liaison with doctors involved from other specialties.
- Cover for paediatric problems on the Paediatric Accident & Emergency Unit.
- Provide cover for all acute paediatric referrals from any source.
- Supervision and teaching of the ST1-ST3 doctors on the Acute Children’s Wards and the Paediatric Day Bed Unit.
- Out of hours, nights and weekends cover both neonatal and general paediatrics.
- Take part in teaching medical students and physician assistant trainees.
- Active participation in supervised clinics.
