Job overview
This post is for a Minimally Invasive Colorectal Surgery Fellow to work within the Colorectal and General Surgery Units at the Royal Berkshire Hospital alongside, and under supervision of, the colorectal consultants. It is intended for a post-CCT Specialist Registrar who has a specialist interest in colorectal surgery who is awaiting a definitive Consultant post. The post will provide generous experience of emergency and elective procedures in both independent and supervised practice. The fellow will have access to operating sessions including, dependent on experience, unsupervised lists. The expectation is that the successful candidate will also be involved in outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists and all aspects of the firm’s clinical and academic activities. They will also contribute to training of core and specialist trainees.
This is a fixed term post for a period of 12 months
Main duties of the job
The fellow will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the Trust’s clinical and academic activities including operative and ward-based teaching of juniors including Core Surgical (CT) and Medical Specialty Registrars (SpR). The position aims to develop competence in minimally invasive colorectal procedures and the Fellow will have the opportunity to work with a number of trainers during the year and will develop their skills in laparoscopic resections, TAMIS procedures and robotic resections. The fellow will have the opportunity to achieve robotic competencies via the Intuitive Academic Program (depending on previous experience).

Following the principle of care closer to home, the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust offers services from many locations, including King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor, Windsor dialysis unit, West Berkshire Community Hospital, Royal Berkshire Bracknell Healthspace, Townlands Hospital Henley and there are visiting clinics in Wallingford and Wantage
