Band 7 Anaesthetic (ODP/Anaesthetic Nurse) Clinical Lead Practitioner (Theatres)

((HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or NMC registered nurse)).

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Anaesthetic Practitioner/ Senior ODP to join our fantastic team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The role is an exciting opportunity to work within an established leadership team to lead and develop a highly skilled workforce. 

Success in the role will enable you to be instrumental in staff and patient experience, as well as ensuring a high standard of care are delivered throughout the service.

The position requires the leadership of the anaesthetic team across the theatre complex  which comprise of twenty theatre suites with four recovery units, divided into specific specialties across three departments, including a unique ring-fenced Elective Orthopaedic unit. 

The anaesthetic team are integral to the running of all services across the elective pathway as well as  the emergency, trauma and obstetric pathways.

Main duties of the job

Management and leadership of anaesthetic nursing/ODP team; you will be expected to work collaboratively with the Anaesthetist.

Responsible for staff rostering, training and development as well as contributing to policies and actively participate in all governance activities including investigating incidents. You will be expected to work within your budget, maintaining safe staffing levels and skill mix, whilst providing excellent care for our patients.

The successful candidate will need to exhibit high standards of practice and performance and be committed to ensuring compliance. You will need to demonstrate exceptional communication skills throughout the multidisciplinary team and be confident in decision-making.

You will be able to demonstrate exemplary leadership skill, leading the team effectively and be visionary in your approach.

The successful candidate must have recently worked as a band 6 or above as an anaesthetic practitioner/ODP.

To be responsible for the management of your theatre specialty on a 24-hour basis, working to ensure the delivery of an excellent service to patients.

To manage people and financial resources within your theatre specialty in order to ensure its effective operation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Evidence of Band 6 development or equivalent
  • Evidence of further clinical and management education
  • Recognised mentorship qualification/SSSA training
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate management training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial clinical anaesthetic experience including difficult airway management
  • Experience of managing an area, including management of rotas, resources, budgets and staff
Desirable criteria
  • Theatre coordinator experience
  • Experience of developing and influencing changing clinical practice
