Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to help build up the RBFT’s Virtual Hospital Service, which is at the forefront of the new specialty of ‘Virtual Medicine’.
We are seeking a highly motivated doctor at specialty doctor level ideally with prior experience in virtual medicine who can show passion for not only managing patients in the Virtual Ward but also drive service development to grow the Virtual Ward.
Main duties of the job
The average day consists of arriving at 9am to the Virtual Ward hub in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Patients are managed over the phone and video call, with medications sent out to patients if required. In the afternoon, the successful candidates will be able to visit the wards to set new patients up and work on service development.
The VHS cares for acute patients, who either have been identified as to not require in-patient admission, or are suitable for early discharge.
Working for our organisation
Virtual Hospital services at the RBFT support patients across the organisation to enable early supported discharge and follow-up in the community. This is all done through a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, with close working relationships.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To take part in the management of patients that meet the eligibility criteria to be managed by the VHS.
- To support in the development of the VHS across care pathways at the RBFT, ensuring safe and high quality care is provided.
- Setting patients up with virtual monitoring kit on the wards, and educating patients about how to monitor their obs and symptoms.
- Actively be involved in clinical governance, patient safety and quality. There is a weekly M+M meeting.
