Trosolwg o'r swydd

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Trust Grade Registrar to join the Emergency Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of direct patient care in the Emergency Department (ED), as well provide leadership and manage the department at night.
Dedicated Consultant supervision and guidance will be available throughout the duration of the post, aiming to build a fulfilling and sustainable career in Emergency Medicine.
This post is not recognised for training. Depending on the candidate’s experience and RCEM membership exam status, holders of this post typically evolve towards any of the following career paths:
•    SAS Specialty Doctor and Specialist Grade (subject to further application when eligible).
•    Join a programme in Higher Specialty Training in Emergency Medicine, leading to CCT entry to the Specialist Register (subject to further application when eligible).
•    CESR pathway to the Specialist Register. The Department is equipped with the resource and knowledge to support any of these career aspirations by dedicating time for study leave, secondments to Acute Medicine, Intensive Care Unit and/or Anaesthetics (subject to the individual candidate’s needs) .

This post offers an amazing opportunity to join a well-supported and aspirational Emergency Department which has a strong focus on education and training. The Royal Berkshire Hospital was ranked as “Outstanding” which is the highest ranked trust for education in the deanery, having been recognised by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) and the GMC as having an ‘Excellent’ rating for education. In 2019 our Department achieved ‘Academic’ status and became formally affiliated with the University of Reading.

The RBH is a busy district general hospital, serving a population of over 900,000 and our ED sees approximately 140,000 patients per year with 25% of these being under 16 years old. We are a trauma unit operating within the Thames Valley Trauma Network. We provide a 24hr cardiac catheterization service and also run a 24hr stroke thrombolysis service.

Emergency Medicine is at the heart of the hospital’s emergency care pathway and provides innovative and high quality care for patients from the moment they arrive at the hospital. It is a Consultant led service with Consultants providing leadership and patient care on the ‘shop floor’ 08:00-00:00, followed by on-call for the rest of the night shift, 7 days a week.

Our ED team includes a variety of clinical grades, all working alongside – Consultants, EM Specialists, Registrars (ACCS trainees and non-training grade), DRE-EM trainees, GP trainees, junior doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Physician Associates. We enjoy an environment where everyone matters and contributes to the skill mix with their unique background.
