Berkshire CAMHS are excited to be recruiting an Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) in the established school-based service, The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Slough.
The Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) are part of an exciting new project funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community. This opportunity allows you to join an innovative new service during an exciting time whilst working alongside an enthusiastic, compassionate and inspiring team!
The Team form part of the developing CAMHS Getting Help services across East Berkshire, working as part of the multi-agency early intervention support for the education setting. The role offers an exciting opportunity to continue to innovate and deliver high quality evidence-based care and whole system interventions, with great ongoing CPD opportunities.
The working pattern for this role is Monday – Friday, 9 – 5pm.
Main duties of the job

Deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education setting with mild to moderate mental health problems

Helping children and young people who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services; using effective multiagency collaborative working to effectively signpost and refer on where needed

Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing

Working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services

As a qualified EMHP be confident in the use of CYP IAPT principles, evidence-based interventions and routine outcome measures.To care co-ordinate and manage a defined caseload of children and young people presenting with emotional health and wellbeing difficulties in schools under supervision

To provide training to schools’ staff, parents and carers in conjunction with colleagues.

Within schools actively promote the whole school-based approach to developing and maintaining emotional health and well-being

Graduate Certificate / Post Graduate Certificate qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)

A British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited or British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) EMHP training course or preparing to submit for accreditation

Be confident in assessing for and delivering, high quality, outcome focused, evidence-based low intensity interventions to children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.

Be confident in working in a school setting and working collaboratively with colleagues in Early Help, Social Care and across the wider system.

As a person, will always be looking for new or better ways to deliver care and be keen to learn.

Education/Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- Graduate Certificate / Post Graduate Certificate qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)

- A minimum of two years’ experience of working with CYP
- Experience of delivering specific evidence based low intensity interventions to CYP and/or their families
- Experience of delivering training in subjects related to mental health and wellbeing
- Experience of working in or with a diverse or multi-cultural community
- Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of common mental health issues experienced by CYP and how they may present
- Understanding the importance of increasing access to evidence based mental health car
- Knowledge of evidence based low intensity psychological interventions for CYP
- Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within the staff group
- Knowledge of and ability to use routine outcome measures with CYP and families
- Ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments within scope of practice
- Knowledge of safeguarding issues and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of CYP and vulnerable adults.
- Understanding of ethics and patient confidentiality of working with CYP
- Ability to personally manage a sensitive, and potentially emotionally distressing caseload
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop therapeutic relationships with a range of people
- Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, children and families, in a manner that is sensitive to and acknowledging of their needs, experience and all aspects of diversity
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills and use of internet mediated communication, tailored to a variety of audiences
- Computer literate and able to use Microsoft programmes including Excel database, word, and outlook
