Berkshire Community Dental Service (CDS) is looking for a dental officer to join their proactive, enthusiastic, and innovative workforce with a great team spirit.    

The service has 7 clinics ranging from Newbury to Langley and over 40 members of staff treating patients with additional needs including children, people with learning and physical disabilities and the elderly. You will be based at West Berkshire hospital clinic but may also work at other clinics and in the domiciliary setting. It is therefore essential that you can drive, have a UK driving licence and a car for travel between clinics and hospitals.   

Professional development and training are encouraged.  
Annual leave is 27-32 days pro rata depending on experience.    

You will be on the rota for the Berkshire Dental Access Centre scheme and provide primary dental care for patients not registered or unable to receive emergency care with a General Dental Practitioner under NHS arrangements. This service is provided both on weekdays, weekends and bank holidays  

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • You will provide clinical care to people with additional or special care needs such as: 

  • People with Learning Disabilities  

  • Medically compromised and physically disabled adults  

  • Frail Older People  

  • Adults with severe mental health problems  

  • Adults with challenging behaviour, anxiety or dental phobia  

  • Adults in secure units and prisons  

  • You may treat patients under sedation and general anesthetic. 

  • You will be responsible for some areas of clinical governance, training, management and supervision.

  • UK registerable dental qualification
  • Vocational training if UK graduate or equivalent
  • GDC registration

  • Membership of a defence organisation

Continuous Professional Development

  • Evidence of fulfilment of GDC CPD requirements
  • Evidence of other continuing professional education

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have worked as part of a dental team in a variety of dental environments
  • Ability to working independently and on own initiative
  • Experience of working with children, the elderly, medically compromised patients and people with learning and physical disabilities
Desirable criteria
  • Previous CDS experience
  • Previous GDS experience
  • Clinical audit / peer review
  • Experience in treating patients under inhalation and intravenous sedation
  • Experience in treating patients under general anaesthetic
