PICU Orderly

Job overview

The applicant will be expected to work within PICU and with all departments to ensure all duties are fulfilled. The PICU orderly is part of the Technical Team within PICU.

To ensure an excellent standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the PICU department environment, to ensure Infection Control cleaning is maintained.

To ensure efficient organisation and provision of food and beverages for patients.

To maintain stores and adequate stock levels.

To support under direction, the ward activity to enable patient flow and capacity.

To work a flexible working pattern to meet service need.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure medical gas storerooms are adequately stocked by collecting additional medical gas cylinders from the main stores, rotating empty cylinders as required.

• Collection and placement of oxygen/air cylinders at PICU bed spaces so that they are ready for immediate use if required.

• Assist in the restocking of the ‘Just in Time Room’ on PICU

• Assist in the removal and disposal of decommissioned equipment as required.

• To assist nursing staff in the movement of patients and equipment within PICU

• To assist nursing staff with the transportation of patients to/from ward areas/departments, ensuring that all equipment is returned to PICU in a timely manner

• To assist nursing staff with the safe movement of patients between cots, bed, chair, and stretcher when required.

• As directed by the Technical team place appropriate mattresses onto PICU beds and Cots.

• To collect, store and return blood products to blood bank in accordance with local policy.

• Safely handle and transport specimens to appropriate destinations, in accordance with local policies.

• Monitor, collect & deliver equipment to the Medical Engineering department that requires
