Job overview

Inpatient Dietitian -Team Leader 0.8WTE fixed term  Birmingham Community Nutrition is excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced dietitian to lead our inpatient nutritional care at Mosley Hall Hospital and West Heath Hospital. 

You will manage a team of dietitians, dietetic assistants and apprentices while leading a dietetic inpatient service for stroke, health care of older people and rehabilitation by working in a multidisciplinary and integrated way. The post will support the strategic delivery of nutritional services providing leadership for nutrition and hydration in these areas, leading the inpatient nutrition and hydration improvement group. You will work closely with inpatient neurorehabilitation dietitian, inpatient nutrition nurse, ward matrons, AHP leads, nurses, catering staff and the wider Birmingham Community Nutrition and Dietetic team. 

You will possess excellent communication skills and have experience in managing teams, developing services, quality improvement and data monitoring. You will also be experienced in audit and report writing, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the service.

Main duties of the job

To adhere to the standards of conduct, performance and ethics and the Dietitians’ standards of proficiency of the Health & Care Professions Council.

To be aware of your level of responsibility and accountability within the service, being guided by policies, procedures and the support of peers and to support lower grade colleagues to do the same.

To maintain a complex clinical caseload within INRU which includes liaison with other health professionals, suppliers, patients and carers to facilitate the provision of appropriate, timely and cost effective nutrition support for patients who are enterally fed or on oral nutritional supplements 

To plan and deliver individualised nutritional care plans based on comprehensive highly specialist assessments of needs and knowledge of evidence based practice, modifying the care plans as required

To undertake comprehensive assessment of patients clinical needs in a  holistic manner using specialised clinical knowledge and skills and a broad range of nutritional assessment skills, measurements and  techniques. This may include the use of dietary analysis software, anthropometric measurements, often in patients with diverse or complex nutritional and physical health needs.

Qualifcations & Training

Essential criteria
  • Dietitian registered with Health Professions Council
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development
  • Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics
  • Relevant postgraduate training or experience in enteral feeding including BDA PENG postgraduate qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant neuro-rehabilitation training/ courses

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of post registration clinical dietetics
  • Evidence of developing, implementing and evaluating projects
  • Evidence of multi disciplinary working
  • Experience of teaching and assessing students
  • Evidence of interest in nutrition support and neuro rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising staff

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of highly specialist clinical assessment skills
  • Ability to demonstrate verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to generate written communication that is relevant, concise, accurate and legible
