The Specialist Post will be split across multiple sites including Birmingham Dental Hospital, Sandwell General Hospital, Lyng Health Centre and Dental Outreach Centre, Boots, High Street, Birmingham.

This is a new post within the team, providing specialist care for both adults and children under local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthetic.  In addition to this, you will be working in the urgent care department in the Birmingham Dental Hospital, helping patients who are in acute pain. This post will involve appropriate lead roles delegated by the Head of Service to enable development of a portfolio of leadership and management competencies.

There are two posts available - 40 hours a week. Part time hours can be discussed and negotiated if required.

Main duties of the job

The department is excited to have the opportunity to expand its team in line with local need. The oral surgery team works in close collaboration with the Oral Medicine, Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative and Special Care services. We work with the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry as one team and the successful candidates will be expected to be involved in clinical undergraduate, as well as postgraduate, teaching. We are involved in DCT, StR, Hygiene & Therapy and Dental Nurse training. We are also looking to expand our dental sedation training courses. We offer treatment under LA, sedation, and GA.

Successful candidates will be expected to offer flexibility around 3 session days, which are well established within the department.

This is a new Specialist post approved by the Royal College of Surgeons and will be subject to the Specialist Contract and the Terms and Conditions of Service governing the appointment of hospital medical and dental staff in England or as subsequently varied by collective agreement.  The appointment will be under the employment of the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
