We have an exciting new secondment opportunity within the Children’s Rapid Response Team and are looking for a Physiotherapist with Specialist Paediatric Respiratory experience. The post holder will be passionate about providing a high standard of care to children and young people, predominantly with complex healthcare needs, within their own homes. The role encompasses integrated MDT working with Respiratory Teams between Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Children’s Community Nurses and Palliative Care Teams at Birmingham Community Healthcare.

Although this specialist role currently sits within the Children’s Rapid Response Service, there will be close collaborative working with Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital to provide clinical supervision and training. The Children’s Rapid Response Service’s focus is to reduce and prevent unnecessary hospital attendances and admissions when it is clinically safe to do so, this role is integral in further reducing hospital admissions, as well as enhancing pathways from acute to community services when an admission has occurred.

The emphasis of this service is to improve the quality of life for children and families with life limiting, palliative or complex healthcare needs, offering them greater choice around their chosen place of care.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated to provide expert clinical care and advice to children and families with complex heath care needs in their own home.

It is desirable that applicants hold the Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or are willing to work towards this with support.

You must have the ability to prioritise your workload undertaking holistic respiratory assessments and escalation plans to support care at home during times of acute deterioration or illness. 

Full time/part time/flexible hours of working will be considered at interview.

To provide clinical leadership and expertise for the respiratory Physiotherapy (PT) service in the Children and Families Division, improving care for children and families and taking an active role in the Clinical Forum within the Children and Families Division.

To lead and support the development of a new Children's Community Respiratory Service across Specialist Nursing Services. Offering children, young people and their families a choice around place of care.

To maintain a clinical overview for the City-wide service, advising and working closely with the Service Operational Managers with regards to the deployment of the staffing resource across the city within available resources.

To identify clinical priorities, setting and monitoring standards for clinical practice, training, child and family centred care planning, and ensuring the team has the right skills and support to deliver a high quality service.

To promote and facilitate a research and audit culture within the profession, ensuring that proposals are discussed and approval sought via appropriate clinical routes; and represent the service at wider networking events.

To act as a clinical specialist physiotherapist, providing expert opinion and knowledge within the specialist area of children’s physiotherapy, to physiotherapy colleagues, carers and other professionals eg Registered and non-registered nursing staff

  • Professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Masters degree or the following: • Post graduate qualification in an area of clinical expertise • Extensive clinical experience including audit and/or research
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

  • Extensive experience of working with children
  • Relevant experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Extensive experience of working with other agencies, including schools
  • Significant experience of staff support/management
  • Relevant experience of engagement of people who are socially excluded, disabled or disadvantaged.
