Apprentice Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician - Venture House
We are looking for four Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians to join the Pharmacy services within Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust. This will be based at Central/Summerhill Pharmacy based in Erdington with a rotation to our Pharmacy at HMP Birmingham, Winson Green and Reaside Clinic in Rubery. This post is a full time fixed term contract for 2 years.
The salary for this training post is 70% of the top of a band 4 scale in the first year and 75% in second year. You will receive 27 days annual leave per year plus Bank Holidays, and normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week with one late night per week (subject to change).
The training is based at Central/Summerhill Pharmacies in Erdington, Reaside Clinic in Rubery and HMP Birmingham, with attendance at Birmingham Metropolitan College one day per week and will be commencing in September 2024 to complete the BTEC level 3 diploma in the principles and practice for pharmacy technicians’ qualification.
The successful candidate will work within mental health services, prison services and secure care services whilst in training, completing a wide range of experiences including dispensing of prescriptions, stores, procurement and medicines optimisation.
The successful candidates will need to ensure that they meet all the essential criteria within the person specification.
Main duties of the job
You will work alongside a variety of pharmacy professionals and be supported to obtain and demonstrate competencies in dispensary, stores and procurement duties as well as ward based activities such as stock top ups, individual patient medication ordering and medicines reconciliation.
Pharmacy Technicians are vital members of today’s healthcare team and make significant contributions to the supply of medicines to patients as well as medicines management across healthcare organisations. The role is becoming more varied and complex as medicines become increasingly sophisticated. Career opportunities for a pharmacy technician post qualification include, medicines management roles, manufacturing, quality control, staff training, information technology, supplies procurement, clinical trials or medicines information services and managing sections of the pharmacy department.
You will study to achieve the BTEC level 3 diploma in the principles and practice for pharmacy technicians. This qualification is required to enable you to qualify and apply for registration to practice as a Pharmacy Technician. Training and support will be provided by work based assessors and college tutors during your training.
