The Haematology and Blood Transfusion department provides a comprehensive diagnostic and clinical service tailored to the specialist needs of the hospital for Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Neonatal and Foetal Medicine Directorates and undertakes the Sickle cell and Thalassaemia (SCT) national screening programme for the trust. The laboratory service is UKAS accredited and uses Msoft Blood360 system for blood tracking.
The department has a requirement for an enthusiastic, motivated and suitably qualified transfusion practitioner for the transfusion department. The applicant must be an accessible, experienced and responsive leader. They will have clinical responsibility for improving blood transfusion practice in line with BSH Guidelines and patient blood management principles. The successful applicant must be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met. The candidate must be able to work with all regulatory bodies for full BSQR compliance and be able to assist with any compliance visit by the regulatory authorities.
Applications are welcome from Biomedical Scientists, Nurses or Midwives who have experience as a transfusion practitioner or have experience within the transfusion pathway relevant to their current role.

Post is full-time, core hours are 8 – 4.30pm Monday to Friday, however some flexibility may be required to cover training requirements for other staff groups working different shift patterns. The post holder will develop, coordinate and deliver a comprehensive multi-professional education programme in all aspects of blood transfusion practice and will also be required to be an administrator for the electronic blood tracking system.

- Must hold a valid HCPC or NMC registration.
- Must demonstrate experience of working within Blood Transfusion to be either laboratory work or in administration of blood components.
- Practical experience of investigating incidents.
- Must hold extensive post HCPC registration experience or extensive nursing/midwifery/hospital clinical experience.
