Job overview

This role will report to the Head of Contracting & Costing and have responsibility for the negotiation and management of a portfolio of healthcare contracts. 

Main duties of the job

The postholder will ensure that the Trust’s income is maximised through proactive and effective contract management.  In addition, they will:

 

• Ensure that contract management is fully integrated into planning and commissioning cycles;

• Provide a proactive service to the organisation to help understanding of contracts;

• Provide expert in house legal advice on all service level agreements and contractual matters.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Master’s degree level plus further management and commissioning knowledge to post graduate diploma level, or equivalent relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in accountancy or law

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a health care setting
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Office and Excel including use of pivot tables and other data analysis tools
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring performance of health services
  • Knowledge and experience of the NHS Standard contract
  • A sound understanding of NHS Finance
  • An understanding of NHS activity measures
  • Experience of managing complex contracts
  • Experience of contract negotiation/ influencing
  • Understanding of current NHS policy and commissioning architecture

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to interpret financial and non-financial information and use it effectively
  • Ability to undertake in depth analysis of highly complex financial/ non-financial information

Professional/ Managerial/ Specialist Knowledge

  • Ability to use the NHS Standard Contract to document contractual agreements and action contract variations as necessary to maintain an audit trail of any agreed changes to the contract
  • Ability to redesign local systems and procedures as necessary, e.g. redesign of internal reporting processes, co-ordination of a central log for Individual Funding Requests (IFRs)
  • To be conversant with national data collection systems, e.g. Data Landing Portal
