Job overview

To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Consultant Psychiatrist and the medical team assisting them in achieving their objectives and to liaise with all relevant and appropriate services.

To ensure all patient medical interventions are organised effectively and efficiently so that patients are seen without clinical risk and within NHS guidelines and targets.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of administrative and secretarial duties, which include the receipt of all correspondence, booking of patient medical appointments, attendance at designated meetings recording accurate notes. Completion of audio transcription of clinical letters, reports and other correspondence as required by the Consultant Psychiatrist and medical team.

To act as a focal point of contact and be responsible for the dissemination of information, messages and enquires for the medical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members, other health professionals and staff within the Trust, GP’s, Social Workers, Service Users, Carers and any other appropriate external agencies. You will also help cover when other secretaries within the service are on annual leave.

Line management of Team secretary ensuring professional development reviews and supervisions are carried out in line with NHS policies.

Essential criteria
  • GCSEs at grades A-C or equivalent
  • AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent qualifications or minimum of 2 year Med Sec experience
  • Level 2 RSA/OCR word processing/typing qualification/equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 word processing/ typing qualification

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Audio typing experience
  • Good telephone manner
  • Experience of working under pressure
Desirable criteria
  • Medical Secretarial experience
  • Working with people who suffer with Mental Health or other related problems
