Job overview

The Clinical Neurophysiology Department at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a motivated individual to join us as a Healthcare Science Assistant Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person to kick start their career within a specialised Women’s and Children’s Trust and to begin a journey which will provide an exciting and fulfilling career pathway supporting the provision of a clinical neurophysiology service to children, young people and their families. This is a clinical and administrative role and you will undertake an apprenticeship whilst working alongside clerical workers, registered professionals and medical staff. 

 You will be employed on a 15 month fixed term training contract of 37.5 hours per week at agenda for change band 2 salary with the opportunity to progress into a full time permanent role upon completion of your apprenticeship. Your primary base will be within the Neurophysiology Department (BCH) but you will also be given time during your working hours for study towards the apprenticeship ay Halesowen College, to attend training sessions on the underpinning knowledge of procedures and policies that impact on the role. 

Main duties of the job

To perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within a specialist paediatric clinical neurophysiology service supporting the scientific, medical and administrative workforce with their duties. Input and monitor diagnostic information systems for example patient requests, databases or reports. Undertake reception duties, including advising patients on access to and the use of neurophysiology services.

 

You will be based within the Neurophysiology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Steelhouse Lane site, although work is undertaken across the entire hospital including inpatient wards, and across sites where required.  Weekend work may be included within core hours, and there is a requirement for the individual to have appropriate facilities to enable work from home if required. You will interact with scientific and medical staff within the neurophysiology team as well as wider key stakeholders including clinical referral teams, patients, families and the general public.
