Band 6 - Mental health Practitioner-Early Intervention Service Birmingham

Do you have an interest in Psychosis, do you want to make a real difference in someone’s recovery? Then working with the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service could be the perfect role for you.

Early Intervention in Psychosis Service’s overall aim is to support and minimise the debilitating effects of having a psychotic illness. We work with service users aged 16-35 experiencing first episode psychosis (FEP) for up to three years.  We work on an assertive outreach model so have a flexible, creative and proactive approach to engaging service users and promoting their recovery.

EIP has a strong culture of multidisciplinary team working within a supportive working environment.  You will have ongoing regularly supervision, in house development and training as well as annual appraisal, further development of skills and further progression opportunities. The role of care coordinator includes the delivery of EI specific interventions such as behaviour family therapy (full training will be provided) and carers support.

Main duties of the job

EIP is a  multi - disciplinary Service is offered across Birmingham. The age range is 16-35  years for children referred to the service with emotional, behavioural and mental health problems.

 Members of the EIP Birmingham partnership multi - disciplinary Service includes Consultant Psychiatrists and other medical staff, Clinical Psychologists, Child Psychotherapists, Mental Health Nurses, CSW.PSW and Occupational Therapists.

 The post holder will be a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team and will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment, treatment and management of a defined caseload. Where appropriate, they will be required to liaise with other local agencies including Tier IV inpatient and specialist centres, as well as the Mental Health Liaison Team and the home treatment team.

 Referrals are accepted from a wide range of professionals and agencies and we will be progressing to accept self-referral.

Families of the referred Patients are included in the assessment and on- going management of the cases. This will include the use of a range of approaches e.g. psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive and psychopharmological, as appropriate, within the overall framework of the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Professional qualification – RMN / RNLD qualifications
  • Relevant Post qualifying qualification e.g. or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of training
  • Relevant Post graduate study or be able to demonstrate further skills based training
Desirable criteria
  • Specific qualification in a relevant therapeutic speciality e.g. counselling, Family Therapy, CBT, substance misuse
  • Nurse Prescriber

Experience
