Job overview

The Eating Disorder Specialist Gatekeeping Team is a resource that sits within the Referral Co-ordination Hub and is hosted within the regional West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative (WMCPC). The role will provide specialist advice, consultation, and intervention to referring eating disorder community services, acute teams and specialist eating disorder services. Working together, the Gatekeeping team and WMCPC are aiming to improve the decision making around children and young people aged 13-18 who come to the attention of the referral hub and tier 4 inpatient services, presenting with complex eating difficulties, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, emotion dysregulation, neuro diversity and ARFID by offering an enhanced face-to-face gatekeeping assessment. The enhanced gatekeeping will provide specialist advice and consultation on the management for those young people with complex eating disorders. The team will work closely with colleagues within Tier 4 specialist Eating Disorder Units, acute hospitals and community teams to support the decision making around internal transfers for those young people with an eating disorder to ensure the right pathway of care and treatment.

Main duties of the job

The role will give you the chance to learn the clinical and leadership aspects within the Provider Collaborative; you will work alongside clinicians and build new skills to add to your personal development. It offers experience to support in taking your career to the next level.

The role requires a highly skilled nurse who has exceptional skills in clinical leadership and skills in managing young people.

The entire team will work closely on the development, implementation and evaluation of services for young people with urgent and often complex needs and will work collaboratively with multi-agency services and other stakeholders to plan, develop, implement and evaluate services available to people with such complex needs.

Clinical Supervision will be provided from the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience operating as a Band 7 or above.
  • Extensive experience of working in CAMHS setting
  • Experience of child protection and teaching and assessing.
  • Knowledge of CAMHS Tier 4 mental services, urgent care and community clinical pathways, and outcomes. including processes to support the management of patient flow.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Experience of team management and performance management skills.
  • Experience supporting planning and delivery of service development in CAMHS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of collaborative working in CAMHS across organisational boundaries.
  • Understanding delivery of transformation projects in CAMHS
  • Understanding of commissioning and contract management processes and ability to work in partnership with finance, contracting and NHS England colleagues

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with registration.
  • Educated to Degree level in relevant field, or equivalent Health related training qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching Qualification

  • Proven ability to provide clear clinical leadership and management skills, including clear objectives and motivate staff to achieve them.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently using initiative.

  • Effective communicator with a range of stakeholders (including service users, carers, and staff) - able to negotiate and persuade in complex and difficult situations.

  • Proven ability to write clear and concise reports in a range of contexts, for a range of audiences, to a high standard within set timeframes and challenging deadlines
  • Knowledge of legislation, specifications, good practice, and policy guidance relating to CAMHS Tier 4 and commissioning.
  • Capacity to develop and implement policies/procedures/standards.
  • Ability to supervise registered staff as required, including staff appraisal and development, performance management skills and PDR process.
