Clinical Fellow with interest in Placenta Accreta Spectrum Care (PAS)

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Trainee (ST6-7)

Flexible working arrangements may be considered and discussions with the recruiting manager regarding this are encouraged.

Job overview

We invite applications for this exciting opportunity within the Obstetrics Department of  Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for Ambitious, Brave and Compassionate individuals keen to work in our Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) team. The candidate should be able to deliver excellent clinical care and be able to hone their clinical skills and develop their research interests in the field of obstetric medicine. You will be working alongside our reputed Consultant team of Dr Victoria Hodgetts-Morton, Dr Sami Saba, Prof Sally Collins, and the rest of our team.

Birmingham Women's Hospital has been providing exceptional care to pregnant mothers to be for over 50 years. We are regionally, nationally and internationally recognised for its obstetric care and research. We are an expert team employing a holistic approach to treatment. The role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced O&G doctor who has or is completing higher specialty training in Obstetrics.

Main duties of the job

The department looking to appoint 1 Clinical Fellow for PAS service, ST 6-7 equivalent. This post is able to commence as soon as possible and will be for a period of one year, potentially renewable. The job will include 2-3 regular supervised sessions per week in specialised areas, including scanning within fetal medicine and dedicated theatre sessions. The fellow would be expected to support the regular PAS MDT with the opportunity to work alongside the West Midlands PAS Network

The successful candidate would work alongside both the local and  regional teams working closely with the lead obstetrician for the PAS service. (NB if the successful doctor is currently in training and requiring to take OOP then this would need to be as OOPP for the ATSM competencies to be “counted” towards training). We are a busy large unit offering all RCOG SITMs, and tertiary/quaternary level maternal and fetal medicine.

The weekly timetable would be flexible according to the fellows needs but would include a scan list of PAS patients every Wednesday morning. Hours of work are full time with on call commitments on the ST6-7 rota of 1 in 10 with banding 1B. The expected duties will also include clinics, delivery suite and ward rounds; with special interest sessions relevant to fetal medicine. A delivery suite duty is 3rd on-call. The Trust provides 108 hours of consultant presence on Delivery Suite, hence there is ample opportunity for direct supervision and training on Delivery Suite.
