Senior Improvement Lead

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Job overview

Would you like to lead the continuous improvement of patient care as part of the Quality Improvement team at Birmingham Women's and Children's? We are a dynamic and responsive team made up of staff from a range of clinical and non-clinical improvement backgrounds. The team has a strong reputation for supporting QI activity from Board to ward level and delivering high quality training and coaching to all staff groups.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Improvement Lead to help the Trust move forward with its quality improvement agenda in line with the national NHS IMPACT programme. The successful candidate will lead on a small number of high profile Trust-wide improvement workstreams as well as support quality improvement activity across our four clinical  divisions: Medicine, Surgery, Women's and Mental Health Services. The Senior Improvement Lead will be expected to develop and implement a framework for evaluating the success of quality improvement projects and continuous monitoring of outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for working directly with senior leaders across the organisation to prioritise areas for improvement in line with the Trust strategy
  • Responsible for the delivery of a number of complex quality improvement change projects requiring senior level engagement
  • Development and delivery of quality improvement (QI) training and coaching across the organisation to senior leaders
  • To manage a defined range of work streams and projects generating project documentation and reports as appropriate
  • To develop a culture of quality improvement across the organisation
  • The position requires high levels of judgement, analysis and interaction to drive clear solutions and recommendations that the post holder will be responsible for implementing within the remit of the defined projects.
  • To provide effective and innovative leadership and management, ensuring clear direction concerning service improvement and effective utilisation of resources.
  • To use the Trusts project management and quality improvement methodology to plan and manage multiple projects so as to maximise the likelihood of their success.
  • To identify and work autonomously on projects, to drive forward and manage milestones and key deliverables.
  • To monitor risks and slippage and escalate issues where deliverables cannot be met, but with well-considered mitigation options.

Working for our organisation

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is the first of its type in the UK. Our Trust was formed in February 2017 to drive forward our commitment to provide the highest quality, world-class physical and mental health care for our women, children and families. Importantly, it also gives us a greater voice in shaping the future of family-centred care.

Birmingham Children's Hospital is a UK leading specialist paediatric centre with an international reputation in several areas.

Birmingham Women's Hospital is one of two dedicated women's hospitals in the UK, with the busiest single site maternity unit, delivering more than 8,200 babies a year offering a full range of gynaecological, maternity and neonatal care.

Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) Mental Health Services are a unique, innovative community and inpatient mental health partnership. Alongside partners FTB offers care pathways of mental health assessment and treatment for young people aged 0-25 years old.

Our Trust is committed to creating the best place to work.
