Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Tobacco Treatment Dependency Advisors to join our Tobacco Treatment Dependency service at BSol. The TTDA will work across the BSol maternity footprint and have an opportunity to work with Gynaecology services to support women and families who wish to stop smoking.

We are looking for a highly dedicated,  enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team to deliver stop smoking advice and support. The successful post holder should have excellent interpersonal skills  and ability to support and motivate others whilst working well in a team setting and on an individual basis. They should have a positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and support others to achieve high standards and service delivery. This role will make a significant difference to tobacco users, their families and communities. Ideally the successful post holder will have experience of working in such a role.

 The TDA will provide individualized smoking cessation support to women who are pregnant, post-partum women receiving maternity care across Birmingham and Solihull and to their partners and/or close family members. The TDA  will also promote wellbeing and healthy lifestyles by providing public health information, advice, support, and brief interventions. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have in depth-experience of healthy lifestyles, behavioral change, managing varying caseloads, have the ability to work both independently, autonomously and as part of a larger team, to support the delivery of tangible results. The post holder will have an understanding and experience of caseloads, data entry (excel spread sheet)  excellent communication skills in engaging with vulnerable women in a culturally sensitive manner as well as being able to follow instructions and work closely with the Tobacco Treatment Dependency Lead.

The TDA will be allocated to one or more of the community midwife teams within Birmingham as a clinic location, however, regular travel across the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) will be necessary to undertake the role. The post holder will be directly responsible to the Tobacco Treatment Dependency Lead working as part of the Birmingham & Solihull Local Maternity System.  The post may require some occasional evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health care or equivalent
  • GCSE pass in English Language or equivalent
  • Experience working with and understanding of Excel Spreadsheet
Desirable criteria
  • Smoking Cessation Advisor Intermediate level qualification
  • Trained in Making Every Contact Count and Motivational Interviewing

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of health outcomes for smoking and smoking in pregnancy
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of national policies relating to smokefree pregnancies (including SBLCBv3, Tobacco Control Plan)
  • Healthy lifestyle/behavioral change experience
  • Experience of engaging and collaborating with communities, individuals, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working with pregnant women
  • Audit skills
  • Excellent and accurate data entry skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing smoking cessation support
  • Previous experience in healthcare in the NHS
  • Smoking cessation trained (e.g. through the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training)
  • Experience of BadgerNet or patient records management system
  • European Computer Driving License certification, or equivalent
