Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Engineering Technical Supervisor to join friendly Medical Engineering Team at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust.

The successful candidate must have excellent IT skills including knowledge of medical device integration.The Technical Supervisor will supervise the day to day technical work of the Medical Engineering Department . Additionally they will have cross site roles in managing the Health & Safety compliance of the workshops and assisting the Operational Manager maintain PPM compliance as required.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the transformation of services and contribute to the wider organisational strategies in preparation for our move into the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) which opens in October 2024. The Medical Engineering Department will be moving into brand new state of the art facilities located on the 4th Floor of the new Hospital.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for the new Endoscopy decontamination unit and its associated equipment ensuring the relevant standards are met in line with JAG accreditation.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post qualification in maintenance and repair of a wide range of biomedical, electronic and electromechanical equipment. This will have been gained in a role without direct supervision.
  • Experience in the use of computerised equipment management systems.
  • Experience in the use of electronic Test & Measurement equipment and practical experience in the use of machine tools in light engineering applications.
Desirable criteria
  • Understands application of technology to healthcare

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in electrical/electronic, mechanical or clinical engineering, or Equivalent Experience
  • Demonstrate ongoing training (CPD) to ensure that relevant theoretical knowledge & practice has been continually updated, including attending manufacturers services courses
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Health & Safety Qualification.
  • Management Qualification
