Job overview

Consultant in Rheumatology – part time

We are looking to appoint a part time Consultant Rheumatologist to join our enthusiastic multidisciplinary team at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.

This 6 PA post has become available on the back of service need and the post holder will be expected to lead on early inflammatory arthritis work at the trust and actively get involved in the Early arthritis clinical research studies supported by the University of Birmingham.

The opening of the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital and system working across the ICS and with local partners offers fantastic opportunities to improve rheumatological care, research and training in Birmingham and the Black Country. Why wouldn’t you want to be part of that aspiration?

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

This includes direct clinical care with outpatient activity at City and Sandwell sites, multi-disciplinary meetings, clinical administration related to the above and management of in-patient and ward referrals.

On call commitments

The in-patient speciality support for this post is based on a 1:16 week rota (1:8 for WTE) of consultants providing support Monday to Friday 0900 to 1700. During the ward cover week, the ward work equivalent usual weekly DCC activities will be cancelled. This person will also support non–resident out of hours cover including weekend of that week which will be remunerated as oncall supplement.

Duties other than those specified will be in accordance with the Job Plan to be agreed with the appointee, the Clinical Director and the Group director and will allow time for administration, teaching, research, clinical audit and Continued Professional Development. A mentor and development support will be provided to the appointees based on personal and service needs at the Trust.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose. When we say we’re ‘with you all the way’ we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans.
