We have the exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy technical services team as the Lead Pharmacy Technician at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

In your role as the Lead Technician, you will be responsible for the efficient daily running of the area and staff. You will direct the team to ensure the safe and timely supply of medications to wards and clinics in a timely manner. You will be part of a team of pharmacists, technicians and support staff playing a vital role in the organisation and development of the technical services team.

We will support you in your personal and professional development to have the skills and ability to develop, line manage staff in your team, carry out appraisals and support the delivery of quality improvements.

Main duties of the job

To be the Lead Pharmacy Technician for the Technical Services team within the Pharmacy.

Support and develop the technical service and team, providing performance and line management, leadership, motivating staff, objective setting and enabling personal and professional development in line with appraisal guidelines.

Process and act upon chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, and adjuvant therapy prescriptions in an acknowledged area of complexity.

 Attend the planning meetings for Chemotherapy Delivery Service, influencing plans in agreement with the Lead for Technical Services, approved chemotherapy protocols and mindful of the capacity within the Technical Services Team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services and BTEC (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in specialist field
  • Accuracy Checking Technician Award

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Ascribe Pharmacy Dispensing system
  • Knowledge of Dispensing Robots
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of implementing new IT systems
  • Working knowledge of the development/maintenance of databases

KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Suitable post-qualification experience
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience of line management
  • Experience or knowledge of Hospital electronic prescribing systems
  • A clear concept of the developing role of the Pharmacy Technician and ability to support the professional development of all technical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy

  • Ability to analyse data relevant to role and make suitable recommendations or actions.
