Clinical Respiratory Physiologist

NHS AfC: Band 5

Trosolwg o'r swydd

The post holder will have particular knowledge in Respiratory Physiology through formal training to Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or equivalent science related subject, be registered as PTP Equivalence or working towards this.

Professional examinations required ARTP part 1 or Practitioner Certificates or working towards this. 

The post holder will be expected to be conversant with and be able to follow the guidelines for the measurement of respiratory function, recommended by the British Thoracic Society (BTS) and the Association of Respiratory Technicians and Physiologists (ARTP); as published in Respiratory Medicine, March 1994 and BMJ 2020.

·         Perform basic lung function/sleep procedures in a variety of clinical settings

·         Perform more specialised lung function/sleep procedures

·         Calibrate and quality control equipment required to perform basic lung function procedures

·         Technical reporting of Lung Function/sleep

·         Maintain accurate patient information systems

·         Undertake administration duties e.g. posting results, answering telephone queries

·         Assist with training and supervision of less experienced staff

Support the departments sleep service and the role will require overnight work on our inpatient sleep service

Professional Qualifications

  • ARTP professional examinations (part I & part 2 or equivalent experience or Practitioner certificate) or working towards
  • Registered/ be eligible for the RCCP voluntary register

Experience

  • Experience working within respiratory physiology completing assessments of competence in respiratory physiology Measurements

  • Experience of working with Paediatrics

Skills/Abilities

  • Performs a range of basic and specialised lung function tests without supervision
  • Laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills. Seeks out further development and responsibilities
  • Highly developed skills for use of equipment
  • Ability to interpret basic lung function & sleep tests
  • Good patient communication skills.
