Job overview

This post is in general adult and paediatric dermatology. The post holder will be a core member of the skin oncology MDT. There is a requirement to join the weekly on-call rota for ward referrals and urgent A&E/GP queries, which operates 0900-1700 Monday-Friday. There is no out of hours on-call commitment.

 This new post will have secretarial and multidisciplinary team support.

 The new post will have a commitment to 4.5 outpatient clinics (including MDT skin oncology meeting), 1 minor operation session, 1 teledermatology session, 1 session for ward round / hospital in patient referrals, 1 session for clinical administration and a session for development of a special interest clinic/ service lead for particular area of interest, to be decided dependent on the postholder’s interests and experience and to be mutually agreed as part of the departments overall strategy. 1.5 sessions are provided for supporting activities, including continuous professional development, audit, educational activities and research.

Main duties of the job

The proposed programme of work comprises of 10 programmed activities (PAs) each of which has a nominal timetable value of four hour

Provision of a Dermatology Service for outpatients, day-cases, in-patients, ward referrals, and relevant surgical procedures.

Participation in medical audit, clinical governance, research and continuing professional development relating to dermatology.

Participation in the Dermatology on-call rota and prospective cross cover with colleagues for such. There is no out of hours on-call commitment.

Provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust and to general practitioners

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant professional qualifications
  • • Degree from a recognised University
  • • MRCP (UK) or recognised equivalent qualification
  • • Eligibility to be entered on the Specialist register in Dermatology via CCT or CESR within 6 months.

Relevant registration requirements

  • • Full GMC registration

Relevant knowledge and experience requirements

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT or CESR in Dermatology
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients and offer expert clinical opinion in the specialty
  • • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
