Pharmacy Technician - Preparative Services

Job overview

Key Responsibilities:

·         Work as part of a dedicated team involved in the preparation and dispensing of aseptic products, including anticancer therapy and total parenteral nutrition.

·         Support the provision of Medicines Management Services to the Oncology Day Case Unit and Georgina Ward.

·         Participate in all training required to progress through the Band 4 to Band 5 step programme.

Required Qualifications:

·         Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·         Developed interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team and liaise with other healthcare professionals.

Additional Information:

·         Hours of work will be based on 7.5hrs daily between the hours of 8.10am and 5.20pm weekdays with a requirement to participate in the rota for the late night, weekend and Bank Holiday service provision.

·         You will receive comprehensive training to support your progression within the Aseptic Services team.

Main duties of the job

·        Supervision and Training: Support the supervision and daily training of other pharmacy staff, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery while observing good manufacturing practice.

·        Aseptic Manufacturing and Preparation: Undertake aseptic manufacture and preparation processes in sterile conditions using specialist equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

·        Documentation Preparation: Prepare all necessary documentation for aseptic processing, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.

·        Handling Queries and Complex Issues: Address queries and resolve complex issues related to appointment schedules and prescribing treatments from hospital staff and patients, ensuring clear communication and efficient service.

·        Accredited Checking Technician: If not already, work towards becoming an Accredited Checking Technician and/or obtain a Pre and In-process checking qualification for aseptic services.

·        Stock Management: Perform stock management duties, ensuring efficient use and replenishment of aseptic supplies to maintain service continuity.

·        Quality Management: Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of quality management systems within the Aseptic Unit.

·        Medicines Management Service: Support the provision of Medicines Management Services to the Oncology Day Case Unit and Georgina Ward, ensuring safe and effective use of medicines for patients.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
  • Validated operator in Aseptic Services
  • Has an understanding of the role and its application to patient care
  • Has an understanding of clinical governance, safety and risk management and its application to patient care
  • Knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience providing Medicines Management Service
  • Accredited Checking Technician
  • Pre and In-Process Checking (PIP-C) qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent qualification experience in hospital pharmacy, evidenced by a competency-based assessment.
  • IT literate including word processing, power point, email, Microsoft Teams and use of the internet.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with an electronic prescribing system.

  • Experience in supporting changes and designing of services
  • Able to input, analyse and present data.

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
