Rotational Clinical Pharmacist - Band 6-7 STEP Programme

Job overview

The STEP training programme offers the opportunity to gain experience as a clinical pharmacist in a supportive learning environment.  You will join us as a Band 6 pharmacist, progressing through our training programme to Band 7 in a timeline that considers your prior experience and training.  

Our current band 6 pharmacists work across a range of services including ward-based clinical pharmacy services (e.g. cardiology, elderly care, trauma & orthopaedics etc), emergency department, aseptic services and dispensary services.  Our Band 7 rotations include specialist and acute medicine, critical care, vascular surgery, aseptic services and medicines information. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in service development and medicines optimisation projects. Education and training will also form part of your role to promote safe and effective prescribing by clinicians.  

You must be a fully registered pharmacist to undertake this role. 

This is a full time post, including the provision of out of hours pharmacy service on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

Participates in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and to the organisations the Trust has a contract to supply medicines. 

Work across a range of specialities and services including; ward-based clinical pharmacy services (e.g. cardiology, elderly care, trauma & orthopaedics), emergency department, aseptic services and dispensary services.  Progressing to specialist rotations as a Band 7. 

Provide ward based clinical pharmacy services to wards, supporting safe and effective prescribing and administration of medicines. 

Participates in the development, monitoring and continued development of the medicines management systems throughout the hospital. 

Participate in the evening, weekend and Bank Holiday rota and emergency duty rota where appropriate in line with Agenda for Change.

  • Completed or near completion of Pre-Registration year leading to Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
