Support Medical Secretary

Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Support Medical Secretary to work within the Respiratory Department based at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
The post holder will provide comprehensive senior secretarial support to the multi-disciplinary Dudley Respiratory Assessment Service (DRAS) demonstrating a commitment to providing high quality patient focused care.
Main duties of the job
To provide senior secretarial support to the multi-disciplinary team within the Dudley Respiratory Assessment Service through prioritisation and delegation as appropriate, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the office. Provide the first point of contact for written, electronic and telephone enquiries on behalf of the team, using judgement to establish the validity and priority of the contact. Liaison with patients, relatives, GPs and other staff and other external agencies as necessary in a professional manner.
To be competent in the use of all office equipment to include PC, telephone, photocopier and scanner. To undertake accurate audio/copy typing of medical and general correspondence which will include confidential, sensitive and complex terminology.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- GSCE or equivalent at Grade C or above in Maths and English Language.
- Competence with Microsoft office applications, i.e. Word, Powerpoint, Access, Excel, Outlook
- NVQ level 2 business administration (or equivalent) or working towards
Desirable criteria
- RSA 1/ RSA 2 Typing or equivalent
- NVQ level 3 in business administration
Knowledge and training
Essential criteria
- Willing to undertake any necessary training to meet the requirements of the role
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous secretarial / administration experience
- Experience of using office computer programmes including Excel, Word, Outlook and Access
Desirable criteria
- Previous employment in the NHS in a similar role
