Job overview

This is an additional post. It will attract 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) comprising 8.5 for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.5 for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).  Timetable below.

A timetable is set out below with two-weekly pattern of job plan providing a range of clinical activities to maintain skills. The job plan may evolve once the successful candidate is in place with mutual agreement.

 Consultants within the department are expected to work with Anaesthesia Associates, supervising them in a 2:1 capacity, or 1:1 on a high turnover list.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide consultant delivered anaesthetic services for all specialties (for which they have appropriate training), which will be allocated according to service need. The rota is published on a weekly basis and distributed to all relevant staff.

The post holder, in addition to clinical duties, will be expected to:-

Participate in continuing professional development and attain the required standards in CPD as set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists

Undertake teaching and training

Participate in both the appraisal and job planning processes

Be involved in and aware of the Clinical Governance issues of the Trust

Participate in clinical audit

The post holder will be required to participate in an on-call rota. Currently this rota is on a 1 in 16 basis and is paid at category A level, which currently attracts a supplement of 3%.

Direct Clinical care - Includes Emergency Work, outpatients, multi-disciplinary meetings about direct patient care. Activities (PA’s) that take place between 7pm to 7am Monday to Friday, weekends or on public holidays will have a timetable value of three hours.

GMC Registration

Essential criteria
  • • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Eligible for entry in GMC specialist register (within 6 months)

Qualifications

  • • Relevant professional qualifications
  • • Degree from a recognised University
  • • FRCA or recognised equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients and offer expert clinical opinion in the specialty
  • • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • • Ability to prioritise workloads both clinical and non-clinical when subjected to conflicting pressures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching special clinical skills
