Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Job overview

1x full time (37.5 hours)

The post combines a number of roles and the post holder must be able to work flexibly and balance the demands of each of these. If time constraints prevent the performance of any duties the post holder must seek advice on priorities.
The main roles are: 

i) With the support of the data-co-ordinator, collate data on
patient care and unit function as required by the unit manager, input of data into computers spreadsheets and databases and producing basic

ii) General basic clerical and administrative duties as required by the unit manager and clerical staff

 

Main duties of the job

We are currently looking for a dynamic and friendly ward clerks to join our Critical Care team at Walsall Manor Hospital.

The post holder will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be customer focused and have a positive attitude. In addition, they require an excellent telephone manner, good organisational and IT skills with the ability to handle a variety of tasks under pressure.

As well as all ward clerking duties, the candidates will be responsible for the accurate and timely input of data onto MedICUs in line with the requirements of the ICNARC Lead. Training will be provided.

The successful applicants will undertake reception and general office duties but must also be able to deal sympathetically and appropriately with upset or distressed patients and relatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. On a daily basis, collect and collate patient audit information being collected within the Critical Care Units by nursing and medical staff
  2. On a daily basis, input data accurately into computer
  3. Arrange for the availability of patient notes and other records and information as requested by medical staff and others to assist in the completion of audit records
  4. Inform the data co-ordinator or Critical Care Manager/deputy of information which is not being collected, is missing or incomplete (eg Missing forms, forms not completed daily) and work with these individuals and others to improve data quality collection systems.
  5. As required by the co-ordinator, liaise with relevant internal and external individuals and bodies involved in the collection and collation of data and respond to their requirements, after discussion with the Critical Care Manager if necessary

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of administrative & clerical systems and processes
  • Fully conversant with information and other IT systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft including Outlook, Word and Excel
Desirable criteria
  • Previous ward clerk/reception experience
  • Previous experience of working in acute hospital environment

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage own workload and assist in running a smooth service.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & Verbal)
