Clinical Support Worker - Emergency Department

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021
We provide high quality, friendly and effective community health services from multiple sites covering Walsall. Our multidisciplinary services include rapid response and homebased care, so that those with long term conditions and the frail elderly can remain in their own homes.

We are seeking to recruit a number of Band 2 Clinical Support Workers to join our Nurse Team in Walsall Healthcare’s Emergency Department and have opportunities for either those with experience in the Emergency Department setting or those that are willing to expand their portfolio.
We are seeking candidates with Emergency Department experience with their Level 2 NVQ in Healthcare, however is not essential as full support and development will be provided as part of an extensive induction, orientation and personalised learning plan will be defined and provided throughout your time in ED.
It is an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Department Nursing Team as we expand the nursing workforce and support our team with progression through your Nursing career in Emergency Care. The applicant, on a daily basis will use their clinical skills, knowledge and judgement to lead a workforce across the Emergency Department to provide safe, responsive and effective care to patients.

The Nursing Team at Walsall’s Emergency Department has recently seen investment that supports both an expanded workforce across all nursing roles and a 6% increase in the training and education time for all nursing colleagues within ED. Candidates that apply for this role will see the benefits of this investment in the delivery of your education, skills and knowledge is expanded and time is committed to the Nursing Workforce to learn.
Applicants will join the Emergency Department as the new Education Framework commences. New posts are being invested in with the Practice Development roles also expanding to support the delivery of our education programme for both new and substantive staff. For newly qualified staff, this will provide the opportunity to develop your nursing skills with a focus on the provision of Emergency Care.

The service has also received approval of a £40m investment that opened a new Emergency Department in 2023. The applicants have the opportunity to be part of this amazing journey in defining and developing new ways of working across the Emergency Department. We encourage involvement and innovation to ways of working and are looking for highly motivated applicants to continue the work that is planned for a new, state of the art department.
Applicants will join the nursing workforce that is already meeting national standards for quality of care. Walsall Emergency Department is regularly in the top 5 Trusts regionally for Ambulance Handover Standards, Triage Times and has recently seen the organisation in the top 15 NHS Trusts nationally for 4 Hour Emergency Access Standard.
Candidates will be joining the Emergency Department at an exciting time as the service commits to continue to improve these standards of quality of care through investment in people and patients across the Care Group. As an Emergency Department we are committed to provide high quality care within a demanding service by ensuring our nursing team are proactive and have additional clinical skills to provide individualised patient care for the whole range of presenting conditions.

You must demonstrate excellent communicate skills, initiative, drive and have the ability to lead a Nurse Team in a busy Emergency Department environment.
Our Department has access to a range of learning environments including courses to increase clinical skills and knowledge as well as in-house opportunities. We can offer post registration courses via Wolverhampton University in Emergency care of the child and mentorship. We positively encourage department link nurses and are developing a wide range of departmental champions to promote specialist support within the team. We aim to recruit new Nurses that will be keen to work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to aid Audits and service developments, and in a leadership role will be responsible for a team of Nurses to ensure they are up to date with Appraisal, Training and have provide the management to support your team in ED.
