Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

We are looking for an innovative, motivated practitioner to join our team to drive, high quality, gold standard care.
The role involves working towards being an autonomous practitioner, providing high quality clinical assessment, intervention and treatment for patients presenting with traumatic injuries. Under supervision you will use your clinical decision making skills, experience and expertise to positively impact on the care of patients.
At Walsall we are committed to developing a team of ACP's in T&O. The role will initially be at a Band 7; with a Band 8A on the successful completion of the MSc in Advanced Practice and the practitioner undertaking autonomous working. A Consultant Surgeon will act as the Clinical Supervisor for trainees throughout the training period and going forward into autonomous practice. The successful candidate will work alongside a qualified ACP in Trauma & Orthopaedics who will provide support every step of the way.
We are looking for a credible, professional and dynamic practitioner with surgical experience. The successful applicant must be a team player who enjoys working at the top of their clinical competency and recognises the value of education, support and development within the work place.

The trainee will commenced training and education programs to become a fully qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner on successfully completing a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and Surgical First Assistant Courses .

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to develop a clear pathway of progression, training, and career structure for Advanced Clinical Practitioners in trauma care and orthopaedic surgery. This role will encompass a 7-day working pattern will an element of shift work and afterhours working. This post will develop to a Band 8a upon completion of a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice, and completion of an Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification. The post holder will also be required to undergo a wide range of core clinical competencies and case presentations within the area of practice. The Trainee will need to demonstrate completion of all clinical and academic practice before progression to Band 8a is achieved within a set timeframe.
The Advanced Clinical Practitioner role will support both the daytime and afterhours acute surgical teams.

Essential criteria
- Highly developed communication, influencing and negotiation skills (verbal, non-verbal)
- Ability to articulate the value of Advanced Clinical Practitioners and its contribution to the health care agenda.
- Ability to work on own initiative and recognise own limitations.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to act decisively in unplanned, unexpected or unpredictable clinical situations involving complex clinical needs and/or risk which may lead to adjustment of plans
- Effective and sensitive handling of difficult information.
Professional & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC registered or HPCP registered
- Degree level qualification in healthcare
- Recognised teaching and assessing / mentoring/ leadership qualification/course/ completion of a programme / course.
- Non-Medical Prescribing Module or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Good leadership skills.
- Detailed knowledge of current best practice in trauma & orthopaedics
- Experience of Quality Service Improvement and redesign (Audit/Research)
