Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, dynamic and supportive team in the Cardiac Investigation Department, Heart and Lung Centre in Wolverhampton. This is a tertiary cardiothoracic centre with 18 cardiologists, 6 cardiac surgeons and 2 thoracic surgeons. The cardiology department provides a 24/7 primary PCI service, TAVI, Mitra Clip, left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO closure, heart failure clinic, adult congenital heart disease clinic, complex EP service, and the full range of implantable electronic cardiac devices.

Main duties of the job

As a band 5 cardiac physiologist you will perform a full range of cardiology investigations: -

Ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring.

Holter analysis.

Exercise Tolerance Testing (medical and physiologist supervised)

Tilt table testing

Physiologist support in Coronary angiography/angioplasty including joining the on-call team

Have an interest in cardiac devices and involvement in the ILR service

Training will be offered and supported. 

Assist in the training of junior members of staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To contribute to the effective communication systems that ensure effective dissemination of information relating to the Cardiac Investigation Department.

 In the absence of a senior member of staff ensure that any incidents, accidents, complaints or other undue occurrences are dealt with in accordance with current policy.

Assist in the general maintenance of all diagnostic equipment.

To be aware of stock management and the responsibility to report low stock levels.

To assist with innovations in practice within the unit.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Clinical Physiology
  • ASCST
Desirable criteria
  • BLS/ILS

Experience and skill

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of knowledge of all non-invasive cardiology investigations
  • • Evidence of knowledge of interpretation of non-invasive cardiology investigations.
  • • Knowledge of all invasive cardiology procedures and their interpretation.
  • • Knowledge of specialised cardiac procedures such as Cath, Pacing and Echo.

Communication

Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • • Ability to demonstrate good communicating skills to junior staff
  • Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team environment

Flexibility

Essential criteria
  • • Flexibility in working shift patterns
