Highly Specialist SLT - Paediatric HDU and Children's ward

Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Children's SLT with Paediatric Dysphagia Competencies to undertake a brand new role to set up and run a service to our Paediatric HDU and Children's ward. We can support you to develop your paediatric tracheostomy competencies.

Our dynamic and growing Children's SLT service benefits from  established In-patient Neonatal SLT and Community Children's SLT across pre-school, mainstream and specialist settings. We are part of a large service including Adult services and have strong SLT Leadership as part of an AHP Group. CPD and supervision is well established and supported.

Main duties of the job

To work in collaboration with the Head of Children’s SLT in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating Speech & Language Therapy provision to patients and their families.
To manage, assess and treat own highly specialist caseload of complex patients within the HDU and beyond as an autonomous practitioner within scope of the role.
To have developed, through experience and postgraduate training, the knowledge and specialist clinical skills to work in a Highly Specialist SLT practice role.
To contribute to the development of the HDU and Children’s Inpatient SLT service, supporting innovative change and improvements liaising with the MDT and Head of Children’s SLT to ensure a cohesive approach
To have highly effective, advanced communication skills and demonstrate these on a continual basis with patients, carers, colleagues and the wider Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and across agencies/ providers.
To undertake research and audit projects to embed best practice as a regular part of the role and to critically evaluate current research and apply where appropriate to practice.
To live the Trust values at all times as a framework for own behaviour and encourage others to do likewise, ensuring the values underpin all that is done.
To supervise and educate student SLTs to a graduate standard, working with the Universities to ensure standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
